Norway’s Gas Exports to Europe Down 6.4% Y-o-Y

NATURAL GAS

Pipeline exports from Norway to Europe are down 6.4% compared to 2022 amid a higher level of maintenance, but the country is ready to provide gas to the continent for the winter, Gassco’s CEO told Reuters.

  • Gassco’s pipeline deliveries between Jan-Aug totalled 73 bcm, down from 78 bcm in the same period in 2022,
  • In 2022, Gassco postponed its maintenance to calm the European gas markets plunged into crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and a curtailing of pipeline gas. This deferred more scheduled works to 2023.
  • "When we enter the new gas year on Oct. 1, you will see that the Norwegian system is ready, and you will see a higher volume if the market wants it," Gassco CEO Frode Leversund said.
  • "So, if the market wants the regular volumes of Norwegian supplies for the winter, we will be able to deliver those volumes as we did last year," he said.
