Novak Expects Russian Crude Discount to Fall

Russian crude discounts are expected to decline as the oil markets stabilize according to Russian Deputy PM Alexander Novak.

  • "Of course, we see now that the discount on our oil has slightly increased, which is natural as purchasers consider risks. However, considering the stabilization of the situation, we expect the discount to go down," he said.
  • Novak explained then that the discount rose in January mainly due to higher freight prices.
  • Putin said earlier the discount on Russian crude would not create issues for the country’s budget.
