NYC Mayor Announces Vaccine Requirement For Indoor Dining, Fitness, Shows

US

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced the 'Key to NYC Pass', the first city-wide vaccine requirement to access certain venues in the United States.

  • De Blasio stated that proof of vaccination against COVID-19 will be required to access all indoor dining, indoor fitness centres, and indoor entertainment, performances and shows. The scheme rolls out from 16 August and will be enforced from 13 September.
  • The policy - which covers both attendees at these locations and those working there - is intended to encourage take-up of vaccines among those demographics with lower levels of immunisation. The policy mirrors that implemented in France by President Emmanuel Macron in July, which has spurred a rise in vaccine demand among younger French citizens.
