NZD/USD Near Neutral Levels, After NZ-China Tensions Capped Recovery

KIWI

NZD/USD took a beating in Tuesday's Asia-Pac hours, amid renewed demand for
the greenback. The rate ticked off lows later in the day, but failed to
recoup losses. The kiwi may have faced some additional pressure, as
China's embassy in Wellington protested NZ gov't's decision to suspend
extradition treaty with Hong Kong.

  • The rate last trades little changed at $0.6658. A break under Jul 24 low of
$0.6615 would clear the way to $0.6532-28, which limited losses on Jul
15-20. Bulls see Tuesday's high of $0.6703 as their initial target.
  • NZ building permits and final ANZ Business Confidence are due Thursday,
with ANZ Consumer Confidence coming up on Friday.
