Obstacles Cleared For House To Pass Inflation Reduction Act Tomorrow

US

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has confirmed that passage of the ~USD700 billion Inflation Reduction Act is the only item on the agenda as the House returns from recess tomorrow to synch with the upper chamber.

  • Pelosi wrote in a “dear colleagues” letter: “This week, our focus must remain on passing the [Inflation Reduction Act]… We salute the work led by Chair Joyce Beatty and Members of the CBC, working with Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Abigail Spanberger (D-NJ) and Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ), to advance a package that is rooted in two of Democrats’ most cherished values: justice and safety.”
  • It should be noted that Pelosi only has a four-vote margin in the House so she can’t afford significant dissent amongst her caucus. That said, the bill is expected to pass without issue especially considering Pelosi namechecked Gottheimer et al in her letter, the House reps considered most likely to oppose the bill.
