-UK Oct Retail Sales Ex-Auto Fuel Sales +0.1% m/m; -0.3% y/y
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite a modest uptick in m/m data, October saw UK retail sales
recorded their first year-on-year decline since March 2013, with volume
of sales down 0.3% y/y both including and excluding fuel. On the monthly
data, the growth was underpinned mainly by a pick up in non-food stores,
particularly charity shops and auction houses. The y/y decline was in
part due to a base effect against a strong October 2016. Online sales
continue to pick up, with sales up an NSA 10.7% y/y, now at 16.9% of all
retail spending. The deflator was at 3.1%, down from September's 3.3%.
