Offshore Inflows Continued To Local Equities

JAPAN DATA

Japan weekly investment flows saw a continued inflow into local equities by offshore investors. This continued the winning streak since the start of 2024. Last week saw a further ¥308.4bn in net inflows, bringing the YTD total to just over ¥2800bn. Speculation is that such inflows will slow as China looks to stabilize its equity market, which will be a focus point for next week's print.

  • Offshore investors also added to local bonds, ¥394.4bn, more than offsetting the prior week's outflow. The trend on this segment has mostly been positive since the start of the year.
  • In terms of Japan local resident outflows, we had a further pick up in offshore bond purchases, to ¥456.6bn.
  • Offshore purchases of global equities were negative though for the second straight week, a slight downtick on the pace of selling from the prior week.
