Orban, Meloni to Speak at Summit in Budapest

  • The government has made a commitment to push inflation into the single digits before the end of this year which is still a realistic undertaking despite difficulties, the head of the Prime Minister's Office said at a briefing of a cabinet meeting yesterday afternoon. "It might be achieved in November, but, as also suggested by forecasts, we can certainly deliver on this commitment by December," Gergely Gulyas said.
  • Forint liquidity of the Hungarian banking sector expanded in August, mainly reflected in an increase of average stock of lenders' overnight and variable-rate deposits with the central bank, the NBH said on Thursday.
  • Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic are among the speakers at the annual Budapest Demographic Summit. There are no data releases on the docket for the remainder of the week.
