Orban's Fidesz Polling Lead Shrinks As Election Approaches

HUNGARY

Prime Minister Viktor Orban's right-wing populist Fidesz-KDNP retains a shrinking lead over the opposition United for Hungary (EM) alliance ahead of the 3 April general election. The two latest polls from Nézőpont and Real-PR 93 published on 28 March show Fidesz ahead by 5.2% and 8% respectively.

  • Nézőpont: Fidesz-KDNP: 49.0% (-2.5), EM: 43.8% (+0.8), Two-Tailed Dog Party (MKKP): 3.1% (+0.1), Our Homeland Movement (MHM): 3.1% (+1.1). Published 28 March. Chgs w. 16-21 Mar
  • Real-PR93: Fidesz-KDNP: 49% (-5), EM: 41% (=), MHM: 5% (+2), MKKP: 3% (+1). Published 28 March. Chgs w. 9-11 Feb.
  • Betting markets continue to see Orban as the most likely victor of the election, with Smarkets showing the incumbent with an 88.5% implied probability of remaining as PM on 1 July. EM lead candidat Peter Marki-Zay is given just a 9.1% implied probability of becoming PM by bettors.
