Overnight Policy Rate Left Unchanged At 3%

BNM

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) kept the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) unchanged at 3.00%, in line with unanimous expectations.

  • The central bank said that it sees economic growth improving this year, while inflation will likely remain "modest". The risks to the inflation outlook are subject to domestic policy changes, including a review of government subsidies.
  • In the BNM's view recent ringgit movement was driven by external factors. The central bank pledged to ensure sufficient liquidity to support the FX market.
  • The BNM said that the tightening cycle has peaked for most central banks, while local policy settings remain supportive of the economy.
