Parliament Officially Disbanded Ahead Of General Election

The order dissolving Thailand's House of Representatives was published in the Royal Gazette and thus takes effect ahead of a general election tentatively scheduled for May 7.

  • The poll must now be held within 45 to 60 days and the Electoral Commission said that it will confirm the exact date within five days.
  • The ruling coalition will be fighting an uphill battle against the main opposition Pheu Thai Party, which continues to gain in popularity.
  • The latest NIDA poll showed that Pheu Thai enjoys the support of 49.75% voters versus 42.95% in December, while its leader Paetongtarn is the leading PM candidate.
