Philippines' First Gen FSRU Receives Maiden Cargo

First Gen’s BW Batangas FSRU has returned to Batangas Bay in the Philippines after receiving its first cargo, according to ICIS.

  • The cargo was received via ship-to-ship transfer in Subic Bay, to the North of the FSRU’s primary location.
  • First Gen will use the FSRU to regasify LNG and feed it to local power plants and customers.
  • The Philippines is moving towards LNG imports for power generation as output from its Malampaya gas field in the South China Sea is expected to be depleted by 2027.
  • A total of seven LNG terminals have been approved for commissioning, with three set for operations in 2023.
  • Completing all seven terminals would increase the country’s LNG import capacity to 22m mtpa.
