Wires carrying comments from Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson stating that her gov't has formally decided to apply for NATO membership, saying in a presser that "We will notify NATO that we wish to join the alliance.” .

  • The party board of her centre-left Social Democrats announced their backing for NATO membership - reversing decades of neutrality - over the weekend.
  • Earlier today, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that there would be 'far-reaching consequences' for Sweden and Finland if they progressed in their plans to join the alliance.
