Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is planning to convene an extraordinary parliament session in October, Kyodo reports citing the Premier's comments from a meeting of his faction within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

  • The news agency earlier cited an LDP lawmaker as noting that parliament could convene on October 3 with the ruling coalition looking to pass a second supplementary budget for the current fiscal year, revolving around inflation relief measures.
  • A parliament meeting would provide an opportunity for opposition lawmakers to grill Kishida over his party's links to the Unification Church and a state funeral for the assassinated ex-Prime Minister Abe. Both issues have been deeply controversial and created a serious drag on Kishida's approval ratings.
