PM To Compile New Stimulus Package & Extra Budget-Kyodo News

Japan's Kyodo News reporting that Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is set to instruct his Cabinet on 30 September to compile a new economic stimulus package, with the aim of submitting an extra budget to the National Diet in late October.

  • The report comes as approval ratings for Kishida and his Cabinet falls to 40% in the latest survey by NHK. This is the lowest approval ratings recorded by the outlet since the Kishida gov't came to office in October 2021.

  • Ties between the controversial Unification Church and Kishida's governing Liberal Democratic Party have been in the media spotlight following the assassination of former PM Shinzo Abe. Sixty-five percent of respondents to the NHK poll found the gov'ts response to the allegations to be insufficient.
