Poll Shows Half The Cabinet’s Seats Are At Risk

UK

Half of Boris Johnson's Cabinet could lose their seats if a general election were held today, the latest JL Partners poll for the Sunday Times showed.

  • The support for the ruling Conservative Party has dropped to lowest levels since 2005 and an election could cost them as many as 164 seats, reducing their holdings to just 201 seats.
  • The poll showed that the Tories would face an "electoral wipeout" in Scotland and Wales. They would also lose most of the "red wall" constituencies in the north, which played a crucial role in the Conservative Party's landslide victory in 2019.
  • Labour would secure 352 seats, an increase of 150. This would give them a majority of 14 seats in the House of Commons, allowing their leader to form a Cabinet.
  • The poll used MRP model projection, which maps polling results onto every seat in the country.
