Poll Shows Harris As Viable Option To Challenge Trump

US

A new survey from ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos has found that President Biden continues to run even with former President Donald Trump, despite 62% of Democrats saying Biden should step aside and 85% of all voters reporting that Biden is too old for a second term.

  • Notable, the survey also finds: “Were Vice President Kamala Harris to replace Biden as the Democratic nominee, vote choices are 49-46%, Harris-Trump, among all adults (and 49-47% among registered voters). Harris’ 49% is slightly better than Biden’s 46%, although she doesn’t have a statistically significant lead over Trump.”
  • The survey is the latest in a string of polls to suggest that Harris could credibly outperform Biden, should he step aside. However, ultimately the strength of her bid likely hinges on how effectively she could construct a campaign capable of moving public opinion - a major unknown.
