Poll Shows Main Party Heads Holding Popularity In Historic Strongholds

Latest opinion poll from Abacus Data shows the leaders of Canada's three main political parties are holding their popularity in their respective parties' electoral strongholds, although struggling in areas where they do not have large bases.

  • Justin Trudeau (Liberal Party) Net Approval: Nationally: Canada +1%, Among Region: Atlantic Region: +9%, Quebec: +8%, British Colombia: +6%, Ontario: +2%, Manitoba/Saskatchewan: -19%, Alberta: -27%. Abacus Data / June 30, 2021 / n=1500 / Online

  • Singh, despite leading a party that sits in a distant third place in party opinion polling, sits as the most popular party head with a net approval rating of +12% nationally. His strongest provincial rating comes jointly in British Columbia and in the Atlantic provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Conversely, Conservative leader Erin O'Toole faces poor net approval ratings across the board, with a new score of -20%, with his best ratings coming from the Conservative heartland of Alberta. Even there, O'Toole can only manage a -7% net score.
  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sits in the middle, with a net approval rating of +1% nationally, with reasonable scores in the populous provinces of Quebec and Ontario, and poor ratings in the conservative provinces in western Canada.
