Poll Shows Morrison Keeps Haemorrhaging Support

AUSTRALIA

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is facing increasing headwinds ahead of the upcoming federal election, the latest poll by Resolve Strategic for The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age showed.

  • Morrison's net approval rating extended decline, with 56% of respondents saying he is doing a poor job (vs. 50% a month ago). The proportion of voters satisfied with his performance decreased to 38% from 41%.
  • The incumbent Prime Minister still holds a narrow lead (39% to 30%) over Opposition Leader Albanese in the contest for preferred PM.
  • SMH: "The changes came during a period of intense debate on leadership when Mr Morrison was accusing Mr Albanese of being “weak” on China and having an “each way bet” on national security issues such as the AUKUS nuclear submarine deal with the United States and United Kingdom."
  • The Coalition's primary vote slipped to 33% from 34% over the past month, while Labour has clung onto 35%.
