Polling Shows SPD Surge Continuing

Latest opinion polling from Germany shows the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) continuing to draw in support at the expense of the centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the environmentalist Greens.

  • While the SPD is now either leading outright or level with the CDU in most polls, the party's chancellor candidate - current finance minister and Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz - holds a wide lead over the chancellor candidates from the CDU and Greens in preferred chancellor polling:
