Polls Favour President With Macron And Le Pen Favourites For 2nd Round

Latest hypothetical presidential opinion polling from France will make positive reading for President Emmanuel Macron, who would make the second round run-off in both scenarios polled, one with Hautes-de-France Regional Council President Xavier Bertrand as candidate for the Gaullist centre-right Les Republicains (LR), the other with Ile-de-France Regional Council President Valerie Pecresse the candidate for LR.

  • Pécresse as LR candidate: Le Pen (RN): 26%, Macron (LREM): 25% (-1), Pécresse (LR): 13% (+1), Mélenchon (FI): 11% (+1). +/- vs. 2-5 July 21. Fieldwork: 20-23 August 21. Sample size: 1,343

  • In the event of Macron and right-wing nationalist National Rally (RN) leader Marine Le Pen making the second round, the incumbent president would be the strong favourite given the historic 'republican front' formed by centrist voters. Here, supporters of the left, centre-left and centre-right lend their support to the moderate candidate (Macron) to keep the far-right candidate (Le Pen) out of office.
