Positive US Equity Lead Aids NZD and AUD Outperformance

The USD BBDXY index is slightly softer to start this week, off 0.05% and back under 1264. NZD and AUD are outperforming the rest of the G10 complex.

  • The follows a positive start to US equity futures, led by the Nasdaq, +0.50% firmer. Eminis are around 0.38% higher. Lack of further escalation in Mid East tensions over the weekend has likely helped early risk tones.
  • NZD/USD is the best performer, up nearly 0.30%, last near 0.5905. AUD/USD is up 0.25%, last at 0.6435/40. Both currencies are either at or above levels that prevailed on Friday prior to risk off headlines around explosions in Iran emerged.
  • JPY is underperforming these moves, last close to unchanged versus the USD, the pair in the 154.65/70 region. US Tsy futures are weaker in the first part of trade, while cash Tsy yields have opened up +1.5-2.0bps higher.
  • Coming up in a while we have the China LPR decisions, but no change is expected. Market sentiment in the FX space is likely to be dictated by broader risk flows.
