POWER: Cez to Select Nuclear SMR Supplier by End of Year

Nuclear operator Cez plans to select a partner for the development of small modular reactors by the end of 2024, with Westinghouse, GE Hitachi and Rolls Royce potentially the collaborators, CTK news said, cited by Reuters.

  • Cez plans its first SMR to be sited near the 2GW Temelin nuclear plant and is also looking at second and third sites for SMRs, including Detmarovice and Tusimice.
  • The announcement comes after, Cez and the Czech government agreed to select a future supplier for their small modular reactor project, at the end of August.
  • Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power was chosen for up to four large new nuclear units at the two existing nuclear power plants in July, with the first unit operational in 2038.
