POWER: German Spot Power Falls on Higher Wind

The German day-ahead base-load on the Epex Spot declined to €90.81/MWh for Friday delivery amid forecasts for higher wind output, narrowing the premium to the French market. 

  • The German day-ahead spot settled at €112.34/MWh the day before.
  • The French day-ahead spot cleared at €58.47/MWh, down from €67.89/MWh in the previous session.
  • The German-French spot power spread narrowed to €32.34/MWh, compared with €44.45/MWh the day before.
  • In Germany, wind output is forecast to rise on the day to 12.13GW during base load on Friday, up from 6.31GW forecasted for Thursday. Solar PV output is forecast to decline on Friday to 11.43GW during peak load, down from 15.64GW forecasted for Thursday according to SpotRenewables.
  • Forecasts for lower solar PV output supported the German day-ahead peak-load spot that cleared again at a premium to base load at €91.82/MWh.
  • Power demand in Germany is forecast at a maximum of 64.49GW on Thursday and of 62.41GW on Friday, Entso-E data showed.
  • In France, power demand is forecast to reach a maximum of 52GW on Thursday and rise to a maximum of 52.23GW on Friday, Entso-E data showed. RTE forecasts power demand to peak at 50GW on Friday.
  • Wind output is forecast to edge down to 3.91GW during base load on Friday, down from 4.1GW forecasted for Thursday. Solar PV output is forecast to rise to 7.52GW during peak load on Friday, up from 5.78GW forecasted for Thursday according to SpotRenewables.
  • Nuclear availability in France increased to 73% of capacity as of Thursday morning, up from 71% the day earlier, RTE data showed, cited by Reuters.
