The UK has selected four companies to move to the next stage in the competition to building the country’s first SMR according to Bloomberg. 

  • Rolls Royce, a collaboration between GE Vernova and Hitachi, Holtec and Westinghouse Electric Company have been chosen.
  • EdF previously pulled out of the race.
  • In the next stage, the selected firms will be invited to negotiate with Great British Nuclear.
  • “Our manifesto made it clear that we support new nuclear, including at Sizewell, and we also support the SMR programme,” Ed Miliband, secretary of state for energy security and net zero, said earlier this year.
