Presidency Receives Report On Phala Phala Farm Theft, Eskom Escalates Power Outages

  • South Africa's Presidency confirmed that it has received a report from the Public Protector with preliminary findings of a probe into the theft of foreign currency from President Cyril Ramaphosa's Phala Phala game farm. Parties involved in the matter have until this Friday to respond to the report. Ramaphosa's spokesperson Vincent Magwenya reiterated that "the President did not participate in any wrongdoing, nor did he violate the oath of his office."
  • The National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) warned that strikes will intensify in the coming days. The union calls for a 10% wage hike but has only been offered 4.7%.
  • Eskom ramped up load-shedding to Stage 4 from Stage 1 last afternoon and is planning to alternate between Stages 4 and 5 until further notice.
