President Biden's Low Approval Rating Persists

US

US President Joe Biden has finished the week with an approval rating of 38.1%, according to Real Clear Politics and 38.5% according to Five Thirty Eight.

  • Biden's approval has seen little discernable improvement from developments at the US Supreme Court which appeared could push wavering Democrat voters back to Biden.
  • Henry Olsen argued in the Washington Post today against an emergent line of thought amongst Democrat strategists that the midterms will be closer than predicated because polling data is obfuscated by Democrats "protest" responses. I.E. Democrats who don't approve of Biden's performance will still vote Democrat in November.
  • Olsen argues that the most significant voter bloc is the independents. Whilst "only 79 percent of Democrats approve of Biden’s job performance, 93 percent will vote for the party." This is not likely to be the case amongst Independents.
  • Olsen: "The most recent Economist-YouGov poll, for example, shows Biden underwater among independents by a 28-to-58."
