President Biden To Deliver Remarks On Student Loan Relief

US

President Biden is shortly due to deliver remarks on his student loan relief plan from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

  • Biden will argue that Republican plans to scrap his student debt relief plan will hit Black and Latino Americans the hardest.
  • The White House said in a statement earlier today that "70% of Black undergraduate borrowers who are Pell Grant recipients wont be able to get up to $20,000 in student debt relieved," and "almost half of Latino borrowers would see their entire student debt balance cancelled" under Biden's plan, but remain "under the burden of student loan" if Republican officials get their way."
  • The White House will be hoping that his plan can convince Gen Z, a demographic that nominally leans Democrat but stubbornly avoids the ballot box, will turn up to vote next week.
  • The student loan relief is currently subject to a lawsuit brought by six states — Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Carolina — alleging that Biden has overstepped his authority.
  • Biden said this week, “we’re going to win that case. I think in the next two weeks you’re going to see those checks going out.”
