President Biden To Meet MBS In Saudi Arabia July 15-16

The White House has confirmed that President Biden will travel to Saudi Arabia July 15-16 at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman to attend a summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan.

  • The trip will be Biden's first trip as president to an Arab nation and represents a significant policy U-turn from the Biden administration which initially took a hardline in response to the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
  • The trip will ostensibly focus on encouraging the regional integration of Israel, which has accelerated in recent months following the inaugural Negev Summit but the White House will be hoping that the trip can repair the frayed bilateral relationship and lead to greater cooperation from the OPEC leader in managing the price of oil.
