Tonight sees President Donald Trump face off against Democratic nominee, former vice-president Joe Biden, in the first presidential debate. The debate will be held at the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. The moderator will be Fox News' Chris Wallace.

  • Time: 2100-2230ET (0200-0330BST, 0300-0430CET, 1000-1130JST, 1100-1230AEST)
  • Where to watch:
    • In the US the debate will be carried live on all major networks including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, Telemundo, Univision, CNN, MSNBC, and CSPAN.
    • In the UK the debate will be carried live on BBC News (including on iPlayer) and Sky News.
    • In Germany, ZDF and n-tv will show the debate live, in Australia Channel 9 News, ABC News, and SBS, in Singapore CNA.

  • Format of the debate:
    • From the Commission on Presidential Debates website: 'The moderator will open each segment with a question, after which each candidate will have two minutes to respond. Candidates will then have an opportunity to respond to each other. The moderator will use the balance of the time in the segment for a deeper discussion of the topic.'
    • Topics (chosen by Wallace) are: The Trump and Biden Records, The Supreme Court, Covid-19, The Economy, Race and Violence in our Cities, The Integrity of the Election.
