Prospective United Opposition Ahead Of Fidesz In Latest Poll

HUNGARY

A new poll from Zavecz shows a hypothetical united opposition alliance polling higher than the governing Fidesz party of Prime Minister Viktor Orban as of June 2021. Another poll from Median shows a hypothetical united opposition narrowly trailing the incumbents.

  • Závecz poll: 'United Opposition' (DK/MSZP/M/LMP/P/Jobbik): 50%, Fidesz-KDNP: 47% (-1). +/- vs. 08/05 – 17/05. Fieldwork: 08/06/21 – 16/06/21. Sample size: 1,000
  • Medián poll: Fidesz-KDNP: 50% (+1), 'United Opposition' (DK/MSZP/M/LMP/P/Jobbik): 42% (-2), MKKP: 4% (-1), Mi Hazánk: 4% (+2). +/- vs. April 2021. Fieldwork: June 2021. Sample size: 1,000
  • While a united opposition would be an extremely unwieldy alliance given the wide spectrum of political views included, it would appear to have a better chance of defeating Orban's gov't than if running separately, with no party getting close to Fidesz in opinion polls showing parties running individually:
    • Závecz poll: Scenario: Opposition parties run separately Fidesz-KDNP: 46%, Democratic Coalition (DK): 17% (-1), Jobbik: 16%, Momentum: 7%, Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP): 7%. +/- vs. 08/05 – 17/05
      Fieldwork: 08/06/21 – 16/06/21. Sample size: 1,000
  • The next election has to be held by April 2022.
