Putin Calls For Greater Security After St Petersburg Airspace Shut

Wires carrying comments from Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding national security. Putin: "We have to use the combat experience gained in Ukraine for strengthening our national security." Putin: "The Federal Security Service [FSB] should stop the penetration of sabotage groups through the border between Russia and Ukraine."

  • Putin: "We need to strengthen counter-intelligence." Says that the FSB must work to strengthen security in the four Ukrainian oblasts he annexed in 2022. Calls for the FSB to keep a close eye on infrastructure objects' security. Tells FSB to stop any attempts by Western security services to 'revive terrorist cells' on Russian territory.
  • Putin's comments come after the airspace over St Petersburg was shut for some time this morning. Reports claimed that an 'unidentified object' had been seen near to the Pulkovo Airport, but the military then said that interceptor jets were carrying out drills. Speculation on social media that a drone was flown close to the airport has not been confirmed.
