Putin Demands Security Guarantees to Consider Talks to End War

  • President Putin said Russia would demand security guarantees to consider talks to end the war in Ukraine. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Putin reiterated Russia’s willing to resolve “this conflict by peaceful means.” Asked if a “fair deal” with the West is possible, Putin replied: “I don’t trust anyone, but we need assurances.”
  • Citing CBR analysts, Kommersant report that the central bank will need to maintain tight monetary policy for an extended period because of continued strong consumer demand. The economy is adapting to nominally high interest rates, the CBR said, noting that the growth of retail lending in January was comparable to December. Meanwhile, leading indicators point to growth of consumer spending in February.
  • The Federal Statistics Service will report CPI data for February at 16:00GMT/19:00 local time (Est: +7.61% y/y; Prior: +7.44%). Trade balance data will cross earlier in the afternoon.
