LNG

Qatar’s Ras Laffan mega LNG complex is still likely to still undergoing maintenance, as no tankers have loaded at the Ras Kaffan Berth 3 since 7 September, Bloomberg ship-tracking data showed, which led to a significant decline in October shipments.

  • LNG exports out of Qatar fell by 13.7% on the month to 5.7mn tons, the second lowest level in the past five year.
  • The monthly utilization rate was 102% in October, compared to 125% in the same period last year.
  • Qatar’s Ras Laffan mega-complex has consistently been pushing LNG above its nameplate capacity; however, the Ras Laffan Berth 3 saw no loadings since 7 September.
  • Exports from the berth totaled 9.5 million tons over January to October this year, down from 9.9 million tons in the same period last year.
  • BNEF expects Qatar’s LNG exports to recover in November to 6.9mn tons, assuming maintenance at LNG facilities has concluded.
