Quiet Start Across G-10

FOREX

There has been a quiet start across G-10 FX this morning. Ranges are tight, and moves across the board have had little follow through.

  • USD/JPY is a touch softer, last printing at ¥136.20/30. The upper house confirmation hearings of the government’s nominees for the BoJ Deputy Governor positions (Uchida & Himino) will take place today. On the wires earlier Jan Retail Sales printed 1.9% MoM vs 0.4% exp, preliminary read of Jan Industrial Production fell 4.6% vs exp -2.9%.
  • AUD is a touch firmer last printing at $0.6745/50. There was little follow through after the stronger than expected Jan Retail Sales print this morning however the AUD is holding the majority of its gains.
  • Kiwi has observed narrow ranges this morning. Feb ANZ Business Confidence continued to tick away from all time lows seen in December rising to -43.3 from -52.0. ANZ Activity Outlook rose to -9.2 from the prior read of -15.8.
  • Moves elsewhere have been limited, GBP and EUR are unchanged and CHF is a touch firmer.
  • E-minis are ~0.1% higher, and US Treasury Yields are little changed across the curve.
  • BoJ Deputy Governors-in-waiting, Himino & Uchida, appearance before parliament will be eyed this afternoon, although they aren't expected to deviate too much from rhetoric heard last week. Further out we have CPI and PPI from France, as well as US Wholesale Inventories, and MNI Chicago PMI.
