Record Volume of ICE Brent Options in October

OIL OPTIONS

Last month saw record daily Brent options volumes according to ICE with the average aggregate volumes up to 257k compared to a year to date average of 159k. Aggregate traded options volumes were yesterday still strong up at 331k.

  • WTI options volumes were yesterday high at 248k compared to the year to date average of 123k although down from the peak seen the previous driven by a large call spread trade.
  • Brent crude futures aggregate volumes also increased yesterday with Brent up to 1.38m and WTI up to 1.05m yesterday.
  • The near term crude options have halted the trend towards put strength relative to calls today as the futures have paused the recent bearish trend. The Brent second month 25 delta call-put skew is today at -2.6% while the WTI skew is at -3.1%.
    • Brent JAN 24 up 1.5% at 80.73$/bbl
    • WTI DEC 23 up 1.6% at 76.55$/bbl
