MNI BRIEF: Italy Debt Servicing 4.6% Of GDP In 2026 –Giorgetti

The cost of servicing Italy’s public debt will climb to 4.6% of GDP in 2026, Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Tuesday, adding that the estimate is based on market rate expectations at the end of September.

The cost of debt service is expected to see a progressive rise in the coming years, although at a slower pace than what took place from late 2021, Giorgetti told a parliamentary hearing. (See MNI INTERVIEW: Italy Debt Still Buoyed By "Whatever It Takes")

Regarding Q4’s economic performance, Giorgetti noted that a worse-than-expected quarter would slightly affect the 2023 growth forecast of 0.8% but only have a “negligible” impact on 2024’s growth projection of 1.2%
