RENEWABLES: Wind Sector Criticizes Sweden’s Offshore Wind Decision

RENEWABLES

Wind lobby group WindEurope has called Sweden’s decision to cancel 13 offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 32GW problematic as it undermines the country’s wind targets and investor trust, it said.

  • “Yet again Sweden is bottom of the class on offshore wind. The Swedish Government has been unhelpful on offshore wind for many years. But a plain ban on offshore wind development in large parts of the Baltic Sea is unheard of”, Giles Dickson, WindEurope CEO, said.
  • Orsted’s CEO Mads Nipper believes the offshore wind industry can address Swedish defence concerns and can collaborate with the military, leveraging experience from projects in Germany, Poland, and Denmark.
  • Arne Bergvik, energy market expert at Sigholm told Montel: “The rejection increases the political risk for investments in Swedish power production.”
