Republican Asa Hutchinson Launches 2024 Presidential Campaign

US

Former Republican Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has formally launched a bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

  • The Hill: "Hutchinson has positioned himself as a “non-Trump” candidate and has called on the former president to drop out of the race... While Hutchinson did not bring up former President Trump by name, he appeared to pushback on Trump’s stances and past remarks."
  • Hutchinson said in remarks in Bentonville, Arkansas: “Today I’m announcing that I’m a candidate for president of the United States."
  • Hutchinson: "Every hardworking American family gets a double hit from the Biden economy. That is not acceptable. I've been chief executive of our state for eight years and that means I know how to balance a budget."
  • Former President Donald Trump remains the clear favourite to take the GOP nomination. Axios has published a graphic showing that Trump’s criminal indictment by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg appears to have done little to affect Trump's earlier momentum.
