HONG KONG: Responses flowing out of Hong Kong & China re: the U.S. Senate Bill
on Hong Kong's special trading status.
- Hong Kong expressed regret over the passage of the Bill and noted that it is
unnecessary and ungrounded, stressing that foreign governments should not
interfere in its internal affairs.
- China opposed the passage of the Bill and reiterated its threat to retaliate
and urged the U.S. to stop interfering in HK affairs, noting that it (China)
must take necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty.
