Retails Sales Remain In Contraction, Pavel To Meet With Defence Minister

  • Czechia's retail sales ex auto shrank 6.4% Y/Y in February after a 6.8% contraction in January, with analysts expecting a 7.0% decline. The previous reading was revised higher from -7.7%. The CZSO said that "compared to the previous year, less goods were sold in food stores as well as in non-food ones."
  • Coalition MPs yesterday defended Speaker Marketa Pekarova Adamova against an impeachment attempt. The opposition ANO and SPD parties failed to push through a motion of no-confidence which they said was motivated by Pekarova Adamova's handling of the recent debate on a controversial pension bill, which the opposition was trying to filibuster.
  • President Petr Pavel will meet with Defence Minister jana Cernochova to discuss military aid to Ukraine at 09:00 BST/10:00 CEST.
