Rheinmetall Chief-We Are In Talks w/Kyiv On Panther Tanks: Handelsblatt

Spaking to German outlet Handelsblatt, head of arms manufacturer Rheinmetall Armin Papperger states that "We are talking to Kyib about exporting the Panther," The Panther KF51 is still in development, with only demonstration models produced so far. Papperger stated that delivery could be possible in "in 15 to 18 months" with construction likely in Germany or Hungary.

  • Rheinmetall has talked up the Panther KF51 as the most advanced battle tank in the world. The lengthy lead time to their potential deployment makes it impossible to gauge their impact, given it is unclear what the status of the war will be in 15-18 months.
  • Should Ukraine still be fighting Russia on broad fronts in open terrain then the use of extremely advanced tanks could make a major difference to the war effort.
