Rising Natural Gas Production Plays Off Against Rising Demand: BI

NATGAS

Despite higher production, gas benchmarks have likely reached their low points and will find support, with the storage surplus expected to continue shrinking, Bloomberg Intelligence said.

  • Warmer weather is boosting consumption via cooling demand, tightening balances and sustaining prices.
  • Subdued rig activity, coupled with critical infrastructure bottlenecks, remain bullish indicators. This is despite output averaging above 102.2 bcf/d in July.
  • Demand in Texas may be negatively impacted by a delayed recovery from Hurricane Beryl.
  • However, prices should be held above the breakeven levels. Break evens are above $2/MMBtu, compared with BI’s view of a $3.50/MMBtu range for spot prices.
