Russia Changes Gas Export Strategy With Murmansk LNG Plant

Russia is changing its natural gas export strategy focusing on diversifying exports, as Novatek announced plans to build a new LNG plant at Murmansk according to Energy Intelligence.

  • Novatek plans to build a 20.4mn tons LNG plant in Murmansk that is scheduled to start at the end of 2027.
  • Russia plans to increase its LNG capacity to 100mn tons/yr by 2030, from 32.5mn tons in 2022.
  • The country has been looking to diversify natural gas exports, following the halt to pipeline natural gas exports to EU countries via the Nord Stream pipeline.
