Russia Dep FM-Probability Of Nuclear Conflict Highest In Decades

Russia's state-run media reporting comments from Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov regarding the New START nuclear treaty, which President Vladimir Putin suspended Russia's participation in earlier this year. Ryabkov: No question of talks with the US on restoring New START at the moment.' Ryabkov: 'Probability of nuclear conflict higher now than it has been in past few decades.'

  • Ryabkov: 'There is no common ground with US on New START'.
  • Ryabkov: 'We have found ourselves in a state of de facto open conflict with the US.'
  • The use of such rhetoric around nuclear conflict comes swiftly after the departure of Chinese President Xi Jinping following his two day visit. China has consistently talked-down the prospect of nuclear conflict and the use of such language from Ryabkov will unlikely go unnoticed in Bejing or Washington, D.C.
