Russia Fin Min: Gas Prices Will Rise If Sanctions Hit Energy Sector

Wires and social media carrying comments from Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov stating that global energy prices will rise if Western sanctions hit the Russian energy sector. Also says that Russia will reroute its energy supplies if hit with Western sanctions.

  • Given the reliance of much of Europe on Russian gas, this threat comes with very real consequences for those European gov'ts considering the imposition of sanctions on Moscow if Russia invades Ukraine. European consumers already struggling with high energy prices, further supply constraints would put further pressure on gov'ts amist an inflationary spike.
