Russia Not Preparing New Mobilisation Wave, Senior Lawmaker Says

  • A senior lawmaker announced on Tuesday that Russia is not currently planning another mobilisation wave, TASS report. However, new rules will be introduced to prevent men who are currently dodging conscription from leaving Russia. Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrey Kartapolov emphasized to TASS that a new call-up was not being prepared.
  • Japan has serious concerns about the joint activity of Russian and Chinese armed forces near its borders, according to an annual report of the Japanese Foreign Ministry published today. According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Russia and China have boosted military cooperation in recent years as they hold joint exercises and patrols close to Japan, using bombers and warships.
  • Speaking in a live interview yesterday afternoon, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said a meeting of foreign ministers in Moscow between Turkey, Syria, Russia and Iran is expected in early May.
