RUSSIA: Russian Coal Exports Surge, BRICS Industry Ministers Meet

  • Hot weather and the temporary lifting of exchange rate-linked export duties have led to a surge in Russian coal exports, Kommersant report. Seaborne exports of thermal coal totaled 37.3m tonnes from May through July, 27% more than in the previous three months thanks to stronger demand in Asia and the Mediterranean and relatively low prices for Russian coal.
  • A second LNG tanker left an export terminal in northern Russia that’s subject to US sanctions, Bloomberg report citing ship-tracking data.
  • There are no major economic releases scheduled for today. Industry ministers of the BRICS countries will meet, according to Interfax.
