Russia Submits Counter-Cybercrime Document Ahead of US-Russia Strategic Stability Talks

  • Russia initiates draft of international convention on countering cybercrime – targeting criminal use of crypto currencies and crimes committed with IT.
    • The draft also expands international cooperation concerning tracing, arrest, seizure and return of assets. The draft was handed over to the UN in Geneva yesterday.
    • Interesting timing ahead of today's US-Russia strategic stability talks, where cybersecurity is among some of the key disagreements between Washington & Moscow
  • Biden warned on Tuesday that Russia is attempting to use disinformation to interfere in the 2022 U.S. midterm elections. Saying Russia's efforts are "a clear violation of our sovereignty."
    • He also noted that "Russia is experiencing difficulties due to the limited nature of its economy, and this increases the threat from Moscow."
    • "Putin has an economy with nuclear weapons and oil wells - and with nothing else, and this, in my opinion, makes it even more dangerous"
  • Biden: "Washington should cooperate with Moscow & Beijing, although they are rivals and competitors for the American side." Biden also highlighted climate change as a key crossover that they could cooperate in.
