Russian Attack From Belarus 'Not Realistic'-Western Official

James Franey at the Daily Mail: "Western official dismisses talk of a possible fresh attack on Ukraine from Belarus. "We're not seeing this as a realistic thing that is is materialising," the official said, insisting the movement of troops and kit is more about "messaging" for Russia."

  • The recent announcement of a 'joint force' between Russia and Belarus has raised concerns that a second ground offensive through Belarus could be launched in an attempt to take the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. This was attempted in the early stages of the invasion in Russia, but the invading forces were repelled.
  • Previously, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that the joint force was “exclusively to strengthen the protection and defence of the border”.
